About Me
I have worked in the fitness industry for 16 years. I have always been an active person and played many different sports when I was younger. This gave me a real interest in working in a field where keeping fit is key.
I completed the Premier Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Therapy in Dec ’99. My first job in the industry was working part time at 3 separate gyms before going full time at Body Fit gym in High Wycombe in May 2000. Here I met many knowledgeable individuals who helped me learn even more in the year I worked there.
In June 2001 I started working at The Oasis (now The Marlow Club) in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. It is a privately owned, fully air-conditioned health club with a heated indoor swimming pool, two squash courts and a fully equipped gym.
In April 2005 I attended a seminar hosted by Paul Chek on Scientific Core Conditioning. In truth I felt like I knew my stuff and was attending to learn some new swiss ball exercises, there was little else i thought i could learn from it. How wrong i was!! I was blown away by Paul’s level of understanding on functional anatomy and exercise and quickly realised I had to up my game and fast!
As soon as I returned home from the seminar I booked up on the next available course. In January 2006 I attained my CHEK Exercise Coach qualification and in April 2007. I achieved Practitioner Level 1. The courses have been immensely challenging but extremely enjoyable as well. As with most things in life, the things we find hardest bring the greatest rewards! They are designed to teach their students to look at the body as a whole instead of focusing on just one area. By doing this you can offer corrective exercise that improves posture and performance whilst reducing the risk of injury or repetitive pain cycles.
In August 2007 i completed the HLC (Holistic Lifestyle Coach) Level 1 course. The course focuses on how to assess the physiological load an individual may be under and to achieve a foundation on which to build a healthier, happier system through correct nutrition.
As well as my on-going CHEK courses I started another diploma in January this year. The diploma covers functional performance and teaches ways to assess and correct deficiencies in the range of movement of various joints. These corrections can help to reduce the risk of injury, improve mobility and increase performance very quickly.
My journey within the fitness industry is far from over. It has allowed me to meet and work with some truly amazing people and I’m very excited about what the future holds. Watch this space!!
